"As with all of the period costumes, there are pieces that can't be substituted with items from one's closet. The boot covers don't work particularly well (too wide at the top and darker than most leather shoes) but with a little engineering, they can be worn. The pants look fairly authentic and the individual pieces (shirt, vest, capalette) are much better than cheaper costumes where these pieces are all one.
I've taken lots of liberties to authenticate the costume and make it my own. It works by itself or as a base for these efforts."
